The placement of this item at the beginning of the CDIO Syllabus is a reminder that the development of a deep working knowledge of technical fundamentals is, and should, be the primary objective of undergraduate engineering education.

This section of the CDIO Syllabus is therefore merely a placeholder for the more detailed description of the disciplinary fundamentals necessary for any particular engineering education. The details of Part 1 will vary widely in content from field to field.
