DEVELOPING AN INTERACTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR STATISTICS

T. Van Hecke, L. Decombel (2008).  DEVELOPING AN INTERACTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR STATISTICS. 6.

Each year our master students struggled with the same problem: how to draw conclusions from the data related to their thesis in a scientifically correct way? This was the inspiration for our project where we wanted to construct an interactive learning environment for statistics to support the learning process of our students concerning data analysis. A classical course ‘statistics’ is part of the curriculum of the master in biosciences. However, it goes no further than the notion of hypothesis testing and is just an introduction to data analysis. Colleagues were consulted to inform us about the types of problems which arise in the field of their specialization (biosciences) and where statistics can play a supporting role.
